About the OG Tag Generator

Open Graph (OG) tags were introduced by Facebook in 2010 and have since been adopted universally by social platforms. When someone shares your URL on Facebook, LinkedIn, WhatsApp or Slack, these platforms read your OG tags to determine the title, description and image shown in the link preview card. Without proper OG tags, social crawlers fall back to guessing — often picking the wrong image or description.

Twitter Card tags work similarly but are specific to the Twitter/X platform. The summary_large_image card type displays a prominent featured image above the text, significantly boosting engagement.

How to Use the OG Tag Generator

1

Enter Your Page URL

Paste the full URL of the page you are generating tags for. This populates og:url and is used to extract the domain for the preview card.

2

Add Title, Description & Image

Fill in your social title (keep under 95 chars), description and the absolute URL of your OG image. Recommended image size is 1200×630 pixels.

3

Configure Twitter Card

Set your Twitter Card type and optional @site and @creator handles for attribution on Twitter/X.

4

Copy & Paste

Review the live preview card and code output, then click "Copy OG Tags" to copy directly into your HTML <head>.

Frequently Asked Questions

The recommended size is 1200×630 pixels (1.91:1 ratio). Facebook and LinkedIn crop images that don't match this ratio. Minimum size is 200×200 pixels, but small images appear as thumbnails rather than large featured images. Always use an absolute URL (https://) for the image, not a relative path.

Not directly. OG tags are not a Google ranking signal. However, they indirectly improve SEO by increasing social sharing engagement and click-through rates, which can lead to more backlinks and traffic — both positive signals for search visibility.

The HTML <title> tag is shown in browser tabs and Google search results. The og:title is used exclusively for social media link previews. You can (and should) set them separately — your search title might include your brand name while your social title can be more click-worthy and conversational.

After adding OG tags to your live page, use Facebook's Sharing Debugger (developers.facebook.com/tools/debug/) to scrape fresh data and preview how your link will appear. For Twitter/X, use the Card Validator at cards-dev.twitter.com/validator. LinkedIn uses the Post Inspector tool.
